Visitor Visa

A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa (TRV) is an official document issued by a Canadian visa office that is placed in your passport to show that you have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident (either as a visitor, a student, or a worker).

Individuals who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada may require a visa to enter Canada.

If you do not require a visa to enter Canada, you may require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Requirements for a visitor visa include:

  • have a valid travel document like a passport;

  • be medically admissible;

  • be criminally admissible with no criminal or immigration-related convictions;

  • demonstrate you have ties to your home country that will ensure you will return home such as a job, home, financial assets or family;

  • demonstrate you have the financial resource to support your stay in Canada;

  • a letter of invitation from someone who lives in Canada will assist in supporting your application.

Parent/Grandparent Supervisa

A super visa lets you visit your children or grandchildren for up to 2 years at a time. It’s a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for up to 10 years.

To be eligible for a super visa, you must:

  • be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;

  • have a signed letter of invitation from your child or grandchild that includes:

    • a promise of financial support for the length of your visit;

    • the list and number of people in the household of this person; and

    • a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document.

  • provide proof that your child or grandchild’s household income meets the minimum necessary income;

  • provide proof of payment for medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:

    • valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry;

    • at least $100,000 coverage

    • have proof that the medical insurance has been paid (quotes aren’t accepted)

  • have completed an immigration medical exam.
